East Coast Trip

After some research, I finally settled on an East Coast ADV motorcycle adventure. That is, until I realized the enormous number of miles to include Labrador, Newfoundland and taking the 401 back home. I did eventually warm up to the route, making sure to have downtime (Gros Morne, Nova Scotia, Monts Groulx) for hiking, flying a drone and recharging from some long days on the road. What fixed my hesitation was shipping the wheels home from Halifax via truck so I wouldn’t have to ride the 1,800km home, leaving Nova Scotia on a high note, by plane!

While I would have loved to just hop on the bike with my gear and go, there are a few reasons why some planning is important:

  1. The ferries in Newfoundland book up early and from what I can tell, expecting to show up at a ferry terminal and getting on are unlikely to be successful. Even booking in April I found my preferred dates and routes (St John -> Sydney in a berth) were booked up for my August dates.
  2. The weather in Labrador, that part of Quebec and Newfoundland is really best in July and August so there’s lots of competition for places to stay and things to do.

Here’s where I’m hoping to record my days, share some pictures and videos and generally document my adventure.
