Day 6 – Still @ Station Uapishka
This was meant to be a rest day, to relax before the hard part begins, the largely unpopulated wilds of Labrador. It was also meant to get in 1 of 2 hikes, this in “Les Monts Groulx” which is what this range is called and more specifically to head up to Mont Provencher. It is marked as closed due to the unsafe condition and degraded trails but after mulling it over I decided to tackle it after breakfast.
It was probably the most technical hike I’ve done in a long time, with large swaths of mud, scrambling up river bed rocks, for 14.4km and a 658m ascent to reach the 1087m peak. Took about 5 hours which wasn’t a horrible pace and I had lunch up there and took some pictures.
I did realize that for me, 2l of water for that trek is probably not enough. I think I guzzled another l when I got back to the station.
With my trip tomorrow, and camping in the (Black Fly infested) wilds of Labrador I started to pack and get organized, charging all the electronics, reviewing the route and doing my stretches. I’m sure waking up tomorrow I’ll feel the state of my legs after that hike.
